Annoyed by the stalled growth in maturity
sent in by Lena
It’s time I proclaim my atheism, as I once proclaimed my “salvation”.
Christianity came and went in my teens; I was greatly disappointed in
the church after receiving judgment from the elders and a pastor in the
church I attended.
The issue is far too sensitive for me to talk about (I made bad choices
because of previous abuse as a child. The judgment from those elders
was to not speak to me nor reply to my “hello”).
As I look back, if those people in this church had studied psychology
and human nature, there wouldn’t have been much room to judge. The more
we know about human nature and the psyche, the less prone we are to
judge. A child who never received love in a home will seek out love from
any adult, or any child their own age and “do the wrong thing to receive
that affection”. Psychology knows this, the Christian generally
doesn’t.
It’s all about reading the Bible only, and very little about “real
life”.
Now many years down the road after simply letting go of anything that
has to do with churches and Christianity, I moved from Sweden to the US.
My plan was to be here for a year or more for work-purposes, but life
happened and I am still here 10 years later.
During those years I have observed a society in which Christianity is
very common. They say some 80% of Americans are Christians, am I right?
I met wonderful Christians, and some not so wonderful. I am not sure
what came first, the chicken or the egg, but watching the society as a
whole and comparing it to my own home country have been very interesting.
I come from a place where children are raised to think for them selves,
it’s a cultural thing. There are only 4% Christians in Sweden. We are
raised to question things, we weigh things back and forth, and we love
to debate! If things don’t hold up to rhyme and reason, we put it under
the file map "unreasonable". Church and the bible have fallen within
that category.
In public schools we learned about all major religions and cultures
around the globe. Maybe this put things into perspective as we grew up,
learning about other countries, cultures and religions?
Anyways, Christianity soon got in my face big time. There were so many
Christians everywhere! I married into a family, which are Christians. I
continued to be an ex. Christian, nicely saying “thanks, but no thanks
to invitations to church. I am now divorced, but have a child with a
Christian Grammy.
I’ve told her that I think apostle Paul was a man chauvinist. Of course
that ticked her off, but hey, I was thinking like a “dumb Swede” again,
that discussion is enlightening, I actually expected an interesting
dialogue. Nope. Anger is what I got. I am amazed to see her serve her
husband like if he was a child! That would be unacceptable where I come
from. I look in amazement every time she does this, and I think she don’t
want to do this, but think this is what she’s “supposed” to do. That’s
not MY god, that kind of god would have to get kicked to the curb as
far as I am conserned.
Grammy want to “save” my children, she bring my older son to church. It
started nicely as I got married; she started teaching from the bible
without asking for permission. That really ticked me off! “Who the hell
do you think you are?” was my reaction! What if a Buddhist sat down and
taught my son about Buddhism? What would her reaction be? But there is
no respect the other way around. As it is now, he goes with her to
church on Sundays, I have told him to think for himself, and if things
don’t add up, pay attention! I let him have the experience for a while
since we (back home) let children make their own choices while encouraging
discussion and questioning. It would be as wrong for me to hold him
away from something I don’t believe in, as it would be for a Christian to
hold him away from other religions or non-beliefs.
I observe this Christianity my MIL displays, and there’s not much but
shining in front of the other members. Then there is church on Sundays,
and yeah, the house meeting on Wednesdays. I see no compassionate
dedication to the “least of us”, for example the homeless and poor and/or
abused people. If you are working with those people with a true
compassion, you will soon find a pattern in their lives. Sometimes bad luck,
temporary crisis, but most often people who have suffered for long from
PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) most of them undiagnosed. Sometimes
mental illness, addiction, and very seldom- pure laziness (VERY
seldom). To be of true help to those people, you have to learn a bunch about
social services and psychology. None of these are in the bible, and
Christians dismiss often psychology, I’ve noticed. I am not in a position
to elaborate why right now, and I’m awfully tired,,LOL!
If one are truly a follower of Christ, helping those unfortunate and
poor would be a great priority, isn’t that how Jesus spoke and lived? I
don’t see it very often, I don’t see Christians sharing a meal with a

the street to ask if you have any urgent needs, but I do see Christians
stopping you on the street to ask if you’re saved. It doesn’t feed an
empty stomach, or pay an unpaid power bill. It doesn’t bring a wheel
chair to someone long-term sick that have no insurance to cover one. It is
a false “help me sleep good at night “and” look good in church thing, a
false sense of security that they are doing the right thing, is it fear
of going to hell? Is it a high? A wise old Native American said once to
me that a wise man speak few words. Peace in mind and heart is pretty
silent, and don’t push ideas upon another. True?
Someone smart once said, “If you name it, you lost it. If you found it,
you can’t name it”. This should be the essence of tapping into our
ability to use and direct energy flow.
I really need to cut short here, my brain is pooped. Thanks for taking

Greetings fellow "Swede"
My grandfather on my fathers side emigrated here from your country. I have always wanted to visit Sweden.
Your comment ^above^ makes me want to move there permanently. It would be so refreshing to know a whole lot of people who didn't harbor this ingrained Jesus nonsense that festers in almost everyone here in North Carolina, and America in general.
Dan (Who has always known that there must be a nation somewhere that isn't infected by Christianvirusinfectus)
That was a fascinating story. I do think you've pointed out that in some ways, blindly obeying an ancient book can stunt and even stop your growth as an individual in many aspects.
Thanks for sharing your story with us, and I applaud your decision to let your son make up his own mind with regards to religion. That's what my parents did with me and I tell them that was the best decision they ever did with regards to me. It would be great if the US could adapt Sweeden's policy of thinking for yourself.
Since Bush has taken office I've quite often considered moving my son and myself to Sweden. From the things I've heard and read about that country, it seems to be one of the most progressive countries in the world. When I really think about it though, I can't stand the thought of abandoning my home to religious fanatics. I'll stay and fight. I'm raising my son to be a freethinker so he can continue the spread of reason in the US.
You would think being 80% Christian would make the US more compassionate towards the citizenry but it seems to do the opposite.
I hope you continue to teach your child to be an individual because it will be the best vaccine against fundamentalist religion.
For those of you with ol' viking relatives, here's a site you might enjoy! http://expatsinsweden.com/index.shtml
I got an email from my ex. FIL (father in law) (retired baptist pastor!). He was proud about some prair that was made in congress, some of the included words in the prair was "we reward laziness and call it wellfare, we allow murder and call it choice (abortions). I couldn't shut my mouth, and responded that that kind of stuff is christian republican talk, and a bunch of bullshit from people who have never had a hard day in their lives. I've seen wellfare first hand since I worked with homelss people for 5 years, and I provided heating assistance for low-income families as well. I saw VERY few cases of laziness there! 99% of the time it was people who had bad times with unemployment, long-term illness, divorce, etc. I asked him if he fully understood what it meant to support 2 children and yourself on $546.00/mo. I told him that he go ahead and pay his house payments, power bill, phone bill, clothes, gas, maybe even car-payments, etc. for 6 months on that amount.
I promised him he would be homeless soon and also without phone and power before ending up on the street, unless he was one of the few fortunate with current housing assistance. Most people don't when they had a decent job in the past, and the waiting lists for housing assistance is more than 5 years in for ex. Seattle.
Of course I didn't get a reply back. This is the kind of crap ignorance that drive me up the wall. Most of those people never spent a year knowing a "poor" family firsthand to see the daily struggles and juggeling they have to do. They never spent the midnight in a house with a sleepless parent who would have their heat shut off the following day.
It's the safe secluded little box of judgement and ignorance that I just can't tolerate another minute.
Since I'm at it ranting off here: I was at MIL house a couple of days ago to pick up my children after an appt. Her bible was laying on the couch and I was heading there to sit down. She said : "Let me move that scary stuff out of the way". Of course I pretended I didn't hear a thing. Mocking someone who is not really under their unbrella of care (since I am divorced from her sweet son, and I already have parents) is out of my concept. Not even worth wasting my time on. I must admit I would love to reply something of the same back, if anyone have some good stuff in their idea-closet, please share!
Thanks for support and taking the time to read this!
The book is not scary. What people do with it is what is scary.
Shannon,
you're brilliant!
I have been looking for something to show my son, like those links! Thanks bunches!
Ya know, I am moving back home to ol'viking land in a year or less. If I was going to stay here for ever (Ahhh, a bloody nightmare! I am not comfy in the town I'm in, and MIL is here,,,LOL!) I would be much more cruel (telling the truth as I see it) towards her. I am abiding my time, I could not hold my mouth shut otherwise.
I just don't like to be disrespected by anyone, for any reason,,,LOL!
I thought that I should have said when she said "let me move this scary stuff out of the way"
"oh, is that how you feel, did you speak to your Pastor about this???" The thought just makes it tickle in my gut out of amusement! How would her pastor feel about her mockery?

Reading the Bible Again For the First Time: Taking the Bible Seriously But Not Literally
The title speaks for itself.
No matter how much you try try to unwrap JK, he's still a fundy.
This is a ex-tain website FYI.
I hope it isn't unclear that I am an ex. too, if it is I need to go wash my mouth with soap and water and smack myself,,,LOL!
I am so curious to why you are here?
Who said we are either going to heaven or hell?
Did you read that out of a book called the bible?
Who wrote the bible? a god? a man?
a disciple? who? wrote it, do you know who?
The bible is a book with pages with words written on it, does that make it the truth?
How about the koran? It's a book with words written on it, is it the truth? billions of people say it is.
Now would someone explain to me what makes a book written with words on it, what makes it the truth?
Can anyone honestly answer my question?
Which book is the truth? I want to know for real.
Is it the bible?
The koran?
Grims Fairytales?
Harry Potter?
Please someone tell me which one to believe, only because you know yourself it is true.
Not the one you believe is true!
I want the one you know is true!
Because you can prove to me it's the truth.
which ones? and dates?
If you read the Old Testament- about Jesus's birth, what happens in the Middle East...they have all come true on the exact date they said they would.
which ones? and dates?
# 2- faith. you need to have faith that there is someone bigger than you..that you are accountable to.
why do I need faith?
How do you think people were created?? They will never find the missing link because we were made by Jesus. momy and daddy hook up??
All you need is to believe
why do I need to believe?

and to answer your other question... The Lord had his discpiles write the Bible.
where does it say that?
what exact scripture did the Lord or Jesus write themselves?
They copied down word for word what he was telling them to write.
they? they who? john who? Peter who? Mark who? who they? they who?
The bible is like the guidlines to your life.
Who said this above?

many thanks! I feel very welcome here. It feels so good to be able to say what I really think after being surrounded by people of bible faith. I don't mind religions per say, it's up to people what they want to believe. It's how christians won't leave others alone and impose their beliefs on others that is a pain in the rear! It's the inability to discuss. I love to discuss (called arguing by some over here,,,LOL!). Truth will hold up to any argument. Then again, truth is in the eye of the beholder.
I have seen miracles happen from many arenas, faith based as well as shamanistisk. The most impressive was thru a shaman man back home in Sweden (shamanism is usually based on no religion and no god). I am not kidding when I say his singing and drumming made me levitate about6-7 inches above ground. It was based on tapping into his inner abilities. People who can do those things are everywhere, in any religion, non-religion, and any country. Christians will think it's a miracle of god, when in fact, it is a mustering up of energy flow, like the anctient chinese traditions in karate, Jujitzi, etc.
I've been outside the box, and there's no going back once you've been out.
Anyways, good to talk to a fellow viking!
Levitation? Well, it happened to me when I was at Disney World, at the MGM studios ride, "Tower of Terror", as I floated over the cart seat I sat in as I was dropped in a free-fall thirteen stories. I haven't had the opportunity to be repelled from the earth into the air, must be an interesting experience. How does one explain such phenomenon.
Having seen many live in strife, suffering and of little hope and in dispair, it would be better to offer people a path to comfort their souls and to help alleviate their suffering, even if none of it is true, it could atleast offer some form of solace and peace to comfort the suffering and dying, surely there must be more to life than fade away into nothingness, in my opinion, based on this observation, I take it in my hands and upon myself to write about the requirements for people's souls to enter through the gates of paradise for the longing of eternal happiness and to get them through this life, I offer them a belief and imaginary hope, a belief and hope in a messiah that will come along and gather their souls based upon their faith and their loyalty and commitment to their faith.
For one to obtain eternal peace and freedom after death, one must follow the teachings of the one who was sent to us through Holy Emmaculate Conception, the one human sent here to die for us and as a final atonement for our unperfections, we must try and strive to live to the best of our ability and to mimic the teachings of our promised Lord and Saviour, Jesus the Christ, whom was risen from the dead. Only by his sinless example and teachings, can we hope to achieve peace and joy within, in a time of near death and dying.
Only after watching so many downtrodden and hopeless ones find peace and solace within my own writings, did I continue to expound and embellish what in my opinion, one must do to achieve and enter the gates of Heaven, surely there must be some requirement to enter the Kingdom of God, nothing can be free, except eternal salvation, based upon what one will chose to believe, as I have promised.
When I see so many people ready and willing to give up their selfish lives and common reasoning within one's own mind and follow my writings, the teachings of Jesus, I never imagined so many would as easily and blindly accept them, this is good for them and for my finances. I see the need to continue my writings and to reaffirm peoples requirements for faith in the eternal here-after.
There was something different about Jesus than the others claiming to have been sent by God, my concept of Jesus The Christ Saviour must be different for us to be able to try to strive to be like him, we need someone who we can measure up to by example, we need someone that we must try to accquire to his level of perfection, and of (my) his, teachings, but can never be achieved, by oneself.
I needed to incorporate in my writings, a saviour willing to die and and suffer and willing to sacrifice his own honorable life for his own philosophy, otherwise people would not be so willing to believe.
I must convence people through my writings that I was a messenger sent by God himself, to fulfill the ancient prophesies and to carry on my fascade as being a prophet myself.
The time has come that I must confess, that I humbly apologize that I have sent so many down the wrong path, for the lies and deception by my writings, I have destroyed so many lives with my writings and embellishments of a personal saviour. I realize now, that I have been responsible for so many lives lost through horrible wars and through my misdirection. I Paul have mislead so many people down a path of selfishness and selfrighteousness and caused so many innocent people bodily harm and pain and death. With much regret, I only wish it were I that had to pay such a high price for one's own beliefs. I never realized so many would be so willing to fall for the incredible nonsense that I wrote so many years ago, this shows a lacking of self confidence in all peoples that are needlessly scared and frightened by the event of death.
I the Apostle Paul, am so sorry for my false teachings and writings of Jesus, how can I ever repay the world, to whom I have so selfishly deceived?
"They will never find the missing link because we were made by Jesus. All you need is to believe"
#1: Anonymous, do you confuse these posts with a thread dealing with the "evolution / creation debate"?
#2: BTW: I think, you're right: JC himself must be the missing link -- I've always doubted that he was a human being.
Finally, thanks a lot to Lena: as a swiss guy I'm proud of the fact that US-people often confuse Sweden and Switzerland ;)
Cheers,
I have also heard that Iceland has a very high percentage of non-believers and they live quite harmoniously with very high percentage of people living together without need of the formality of marriage.
I think with respect to your son, you might want to print out the anti-tracts here at exchristian as well as http://www.ffrf.org and passing them along when the occasion and the rebuttal is warranted.
Perhaps your coming out about your non-belief is stirring doubts within your in-laws on a subconscious level and they interpret their small ray of reasoning that is sparked by it as a threat. When they pipe up about their Christianity you can simply leave your anti-tracts around in response.
Another thing, people who are not reasonable can seldom be reasoned with-this is a hard truth I learned from knowing and helping a former boyfriend who was truly afflicted with alcoholism which also applies to believers who refuse to acknowledge the plainness of the absurdities and contradictions of their beliefs in light of modern knowledge.
Perhaps your native country of Sweden is a sign of hope that where knowledge, critical thinking and modern learning are upheld, the myths and beliefs of bygone eras lose their grip on a nation and some day, the world.
thanks for the post, I didn't check back on my posting for a couple of days!
I accually left christianity already in my teens, but now, at 39, I had constant run-ins with christians since I moved to the US. Since ex. inlaws are christians as well it has stirred up a frustrationwithin, an upright anger at their stubborness. Maybe one day my feelings will come to pass.
The anger may seem displaced, but on the other hand, if they would leave us alone and not see us as "lesser" than others it wouldn't be such a madness around it. Are we excused for being angry? I think so. I am raised to not give advice unless asked for. Pushing your beliefs, or your opinion in any matter at all upon someone, even a stranger- is belitteling, am I wrong?
I will sure check out the page you posted. I asked my son last night why he goes to church with grammie, and he said- "oh, it's for the songs, that's all". I don't care about the talk, he then said. He is an artist by nature, and appreciate feelings music and images arouses.
I am glad that he so young can differeciate between reality and fairy tale. If only grammy knew,,,LOL! I am now teaching him some swedish to prep him for the move back home to Sweden.
I think the problem here in the US may be the illusion that the country was built on christian belief, "In God We Trust".
I am sorry, my daughter is pulling my pants, i have to go for now!
He was a great guy,but did'nt fit into the fundy mold.He is survived by his wife and 2 daughters,.. who never miss church,...ever!
I can't help but think if he'd recieived psych. and med. help he'd might still be alive,..but we all know that those things are "DEMONIC".
The sickess part will be the judgemental comments on backsliding and rebellion that will proceed the funeral tommorrow.Oh yea ,...that he's in hell right now,...let's don't forget that one.
I am so glad I'm no longer associated with those f--k--in fundie a--holes!
poor would be a great priority, isn’t that how Jesus spoke and lived? I
don’t see it very often, I don’t see Christians sharing "a meal with a

just something that you may want to check out in light of your post, and the specific passage cited above...i can see how Christians don't always act in ways that are Christ-like, but a book, Under the Overpass by Mike Yankoski deals directly with this issue. it's really intriguing and challenges Christians and non-Christians to look at the homeless and disadvantaged in a different light. it is written by a Christian, but i think you'd be surprised with the side that it takes.
Sometimes it really sucks and man tries to make an attempt to explain what is really going on, but none of us really have any idea.
Thanks for sharing freedy, I really do know how you feel. TC Ben
And this is precisely why you are caught up in self-deception. ***In fact, you have not SEEN God, nor have you detected God's presence with any of your other physical senses, either. Sure, you may be convinced that your Jesus is real---convinced the same way a child is convinced that they have an imaginary friend---but as logically thinking adults, we know otherwise, don't we? Like you said, you "see" what you "want" to see.
Concerned person said: "God does love you, all of you!"
Yaay!..and Lucky loves you! He wants you to buy His delicious cereal. It's a "choice"---buy His cereal, or He will cut your legs off at the knee, and chase you around the store with a flame thrower! "Buy it, buy it, buy it!!!!" Praise Lucky!

Yes, and thier our uneducated peoples who will never finded it.

No, you're right..the stork didn't bring us, and we didn't materialize out of mud. There's hope for you!
"God will return and every knee will bow and tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord."
God's been returning for 2000 years, wha'did he get lost? Nonetheless, if he makes it back before I die, I'll just hide in my garden.....he won't find me there...... "Psssssst!...over here ya dip-shit!" LMAO!

You're prayers are useless, Sonny boy. Tell ya what, pray that we all go back to your Jesus and this site get's closed by noon tomorrow, 'k handsome?
