Walker Between Worlds

sent in by Sigrun Odinsdottir

I have bipolar disorder, and have been in and out of institutions for the past 3 years. My last experience with a psych facility, I was in for a year and a half, residential, and I won't name names because I don't want to get sued, but most of the staff was born-again Christians. At this time I had been practicing Asatru, which is Norse neo-paganism (www.asatru.org), for five and a half years. I was not allowed to have my Freyja statue or my runes, although another resident was allowed to have a breakable crucifix. Well, after you hear that you and your religion are evil umpteen times a day every day, you are going to break under pressure. On September 27, 2005, i "received Christ as my lord and savior", renounced Asatru, and proceeded to dispose of $1000 worth of books and ritual items (thank the gods that I had more in storage at my mom's house, where I now live). Then the brainwashing began.

Everyone thought I was getting better, but in fact I was getting worse. i started to worry about "saving souls", "repenting of sin", and what "the end times" were going to be like. I also didn't like the fact that the church treated women as second-class citizens (says so right in your holey buy-bull) and says homosexuals should be put to death (I am bisexual and tried to repent and it didn't work). I also didn't like the fact that all these people of other religions, 90% of the world's population in fact, are supposedly going to hell, when they are for the most part good people who are trying to do the right thing and serve their creator(s).

On Christmas day, 2005, some time after I had been discharged, I had a vision of Freyja and Freyr asking me to come back to them. at first it freaked me out, but then I felt... relief - relief that I could once again be myself.

I have always been "different". Some may label me "crazy". Christians have a word for the mentally ill -- "demon-possessed". In Asatru we feel differently. Odin is the god for different people, being a different sort of god himself. I am a walker between worlds, and I finally feel peace with this. Tonight, on Yule night, December 31st, I will be rededicating myself to the Norse gods and goddesses. Odin says, "it's about f***ing time!" LOL

I am not here, by the way, to promote my religion as being better than anyone else's. We all have our different paths to follow. Some may choose Wicca, some may choose Buddhism, and some may choose even atheism. I feel that as long as you are trying your best in life and are "most excellent to one another", that is what counts.

What churches or organizations or labels have applied to you? Assembly of God, Baptist, charismatic, evangelical, fundamentalist, Bible-believing
What labels, if any, would you apply to yourself now? Asatru, Norse heathen, bisexual, feminist, shaman, free to be me!
Why did you become a christian? I was bullied into it by the persecution of my religion (Asatru)
I had a dream about the Norse Gods calling me back to them

Well congratulations on making your break from christianity. You will find a diverse lot of people here. I don't believe anyone here is going to trash you for following Odin.

Of course we do get the occasional fundy troll whining we are sinners. However they usually get blasted pretty good by numerous comments. Welcome to this site and may your time here be well spent.

Glad you found the site. We are a pretty diverse group. I personally don't care if others want to believe in a deity. Just as long as they don't expect me to believe in it also.

Welcome to the site. As was said above we are a diverse lot here.

Welcome to being free from xianity.
Freedom from the poison of xianity is sweet.

None of the regulars here will down you for what ever belief system you have. We have all come to the conclusion that xianity is a hoax, buy bull and all.

I worked with a man from Jamaica some years ago and the methods used in Africa was the same as you describe with the exception that the missionaries had the reputation of haveing a king james bible in one hand and a gun in the other.

The methodology of xians has not changed in at least a millenia. Still force and coercion are a means to get converts. Amazing that the xianity has so little credability that force and coercion has to be used to get people in then brainwash them.

Their methodology is proof of the falseness of their religion and their less than holy book.

Many of us here have spent years studying to come to our conclusions of the falseness of xianity.

There is a multitude of information on this and other related sites to prove the total lack of credability of xianity.

Best always

Greetings Sigrun,

You concluded with "...as long as you are trying your best in life and are 'most excellent to one another', that is what counts." Well said. I completely agree.

Personally, I don't really care what people believe, so long as they respect others, INCLUDING their right to adopt whatever theology they wish! That's why your story was disturbing to me. It was highly unethical (if not illegal) for the staff to treat you as they did. I'm happy to hear that you're regained some peace of mind after leaving that dreadful place.

Best of luck to you.

Hey Sigrun, just wanted to say that I applaud your efforts to find a path that is suitable for you, and one which allows you to find harmony in your life... There is wisdom in the writings, that seem to have lasted throughout the ages of mankind.

Hávamál - The Sayings of Hár

16 - "The coward believes he will live forever If he holds back in the battle, But in old age he shall have no peace Though spears have spared his limbs"

*****This kind of shuns the concept of hell ;-) Live Life Without Fear; Carpe Deim, seize the day, to live life to its fullest.

23 - "Foolish is he who frets at night, And lies awake to worry'
A weary man when morning comes,
He finds all as bad as before,"

*****Speaking of hell, and the landlord, it appears that fretting about something that can't be changed is foolish...

26 - "The fool who fancies he is full of wisdom While he sits by his hearth at home. Quickly finds when questioned by others. That he knows nothing at all.

*****Ah, the silence of many while sitting on pews, if far more safe... than, trying to debate those, who have stood up, open mindedly, to find greater truth...

27 - "The ignorant booby had best be silent When he moves among other men, No one will know what a nit-wit he is Until he begins to talk; No one knows less what a nit-wit he is Than the man who talks too much."

*****And, so it is with many we meet on this site..., the more wise, the more tolerant... the less wise, the less tolerant, and the less wise, are typically the ones who seem to want to say the most...

Its good to read your post, and know that you have found peaceful sleep once again, even though there appears to be no-end to the boobs in our lives, who have the insatiable desire to keep talking... many regulars, are optimistic however, it appears that a full-boob, over a little debate, can become half-boobs and more, such is the level of "hope" we have for humanity... :-) take care...

All religions are a fraud and Christianity outdoes them all in the fraudulent basket.

Welcome fellow bi-polarite, i too suffer from the disorder . It contributed to my own fanatical rantings an extreme fundamental beliefs over 20 years.I like many preachers/t.v.evangelist talked and supposely heared from "gaud"on a daily basis. I,like them was decieved that it was god not and not me .I'm so glad to hear your story for I know that many christians are suffering from mariads of mental disorders. The fairy tales of the gobbledygook gospels & old testament myths comfort and serve as a antianxiety drug to those insecure, gullable and desperate people.Iknow ,..this was me! I try to keep this in mind when I get angry at fundies,..they're mentally ill and need help. literal forms of christianity keep them from receiving help,. for they believe we have demons not chemical inbalances. (kind of like scientology)..freedy

To everyone.I want to reword some of the things I said in previous postings. Maybe the seasonal drink & depression could be to some blame.I belieive there are many christians who stride on the good side of the fence. That is the side of love, non judgemental ,and GOOD WILL TOWARD'S MEN -attitude.
These are those who help others with their own time, money, not affiliated with any 'BIG TIME MINISTRY'they truly just want to help people in need.And,. though it may be motivated by out side influences ,....their motive remains pure...We at exchristians, salute you this new year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!freedy

The christians I'm refering to
here are U.R., or universal reconciliationists. They believe je- sus's death redeemed all mankind. No will end up in hell. This is an interesting movement because it puts the power back on god's side.Mainline chistianity gives all the power to satan,(5 billion destined for hell)for example.U.r.is gaining a large following, for it's the only way christianity could ever make any since.I've know of some of these U.R.s, and they are like us in that they have been totally abused and fed up with the church and it's impudent god of the bible,. Does any one know much about this u.r. movement?,...WHERE DID IT COME FROM? freedy

Some Christian Universalists refer to themselves as Reconciliationists.

Christians practicing Universalism.

Universalism

Dates:
Hosea Ballou's Treatise of the Atonement: 1805
Universalists merged with Unitarians: 1961

Definition:
The doctrine of Universalism is the religious idea that all people will eventually be saved, regardless of their actual beliefs or actions. Some may have to do penitence for their crimes, but at some point they will achieve salvation.

One of the earliest and most prominent American leaders of Univeralism was Hosea Ballou (1771-1852). Ballou argued for the importance of reason in religious faith and emphasized God's benevolence and love, leading to the conclusion that God would not allow anyone to suffer eternally."
http://atheism.about.com/library/glossary/western/bldef_universalism.htm

They appear to believe that all people will eventually be saved, however, that is what the Jews believed also, gehenna/hell was only a 12 month trip at most.

Dear Friends,

I am a person who has been seeking who has been asking a lot of questions regarding hell
. The Doctrine of Universalism that God will eventually reconcile everyone to him has assuaged many of my doubts.

I have read a lot on this subject on the internet and elsewhere. I would like to share with you a site that a gave an alternative idea which was also based on the Bible. The view was that Hell would be temporary and that eventually all would be saved. The arguments are all bible-based and I would like to have your view on this
