Got kicked out of Church!

I hope I'm on the right site for me. I was baptized Methodist, spent childhood in Pentecostal faith, converted to Catholic as an adult, and now I consider myself to be spiritual but anti-religious.
Back in the '70's when I was 12, my mom got interested in Astrology and joined a psychic circle. She occasionally took me with her and I enjoyed it alot. I started reading a lot of books...Edgar Cayce and others based on reincarnation, etc.
Every week my and my girlfriend would scan the bible for scriptures that disagreed with our Youth Group discussions. We enjoyed asking forbidden questions. We were both kicked out of church by the pastor because we "dared" to question the sincerity of some idiot evangelist named Katherine Kuhlman that the church believed was legit. The paper said she was being investigated for tax evasion, lived in a mansion, had a fleet of rolls royces, etc. I asked my teacher" how come you consider Katherine Kuhlman's words to come from God when she is being investigated for tax evasion and has all these material things but you accuse Edgar Cayce's healings and readings to be from the devil and he was not materialistic at all and lived a very virtuous life and considered his gifts to come from God, and lived a very humble life?"
After that class, the pastor took us aside and said "if you don't like what we teach then maybe you better go elsewhere?" What a jerk!!! So, we did. I continued my spiritual studies and eventually started attending Unity Church which is a very cool church. They are totally comfortable mingling traditional Christianity with metaphysical beliefs. Eventually I met my husband who was a Catholic and after going to some services, decided it was a much more tolerant religion than the Pentecostal church I was raised in, which condemned every branch of every religion except themselves. That's what I really hated about that church.
So, I converted to Catholicism. Then over the years I have resumed my spiritual studies and have decided that organized religion sucks, they are a bunch of intolerant hypocrites who interpret the Bible to suit their own prejudices and desires to control others.
I am much happier maintaining my relationship with the Divine by communicating directly with him/her instead of "paying church leaders to make the connection for me".
They are such idiots. Every time I hear a "Christian" spouting off...usually negatively against someone else, it reaffirms that my anti-religion choice is the correct one for me.
My beliefs now are definitely "New Age" based. I believe in reincarnation, in the feminine aspect of God as well as the male one, and believe the Bible to be a bunch of crap. God didn't write it...man did! I do believe in some of the historical scriptures but the rules and regs are BS, for the most part.
Anyhow this is my point of view...

I can think of quite a few: The Mahabharata, which includes the Bhagavad-Gita, The Upanishads, Virgil's The Aeneid, The I Ching, Homer's Odyssey and Iliad, and Euclid's Elements (a math book!). Those books all rock too. Have you read any of them?

By "the word of God" I presume you mean the Christian Bible, right? What makes you think it's the word of a supernatural entity? There are many books that purport to be such, and I think we can both agree that almost all of them are nothing of the kind (the only difference is that I am content to remove the word "almost", and you are not). As for "thinking about Jesus", we do that here on a daily basis.

I think I've made a marvelously good decision to think for myself, and to not simply adopt any dogma that is thrust upon me. In so doing, I've come to the almost inescapable conclusion that Christianity is no more real than the thousands of other religions invented by man.

my point across.The thought I love is that no matter what we do God still loves us, He may not like the act, but He still loves his child and will restore grace if I repent as King David did,a man after God's own heart. Jesus Christ is the answer to our troubles, without Him we have no hope.Knowing why we are here on earth in flesh is the key, it's all about a decision, we have a choice, choose well.

If I told you that you must pray to Allah five times a day, or accept Krishna's gifts, or follow that path of Buddha, you would immediately dismiss my words, would you not? I'm sorry, Maureen, but no one knows God "personally". Conceptually speaking, God is a timeless/limitless "being". In order to detect God with your limited 5 physical senses, you would have to put limits on your God, as well. If I'm wrong, then please--any Christian who knows God "personally", I ask you to take this time to give a detailed description of what God looks like and/or sounds like. How tall is God?...5'7?...5'11?...12 foot even? What color are God's eyes? When God speaks directly to you, does God speak perfect English?..or does God have a middle-eastern accent? You get the idea.

Wayne---assuming you finished highschool, did you ask for "forgiveness" before you learned the "truth" about geometry?...how about Algebra? I just want to say that your story touched me and made me sad. I am so sorry for what the church has done to you.
Because we are all sinful people, even people who call themselves Christians--and who may even truly have a personal relationship with God--sometimes act in an arrogant, insensitive and unkind manner.
When we do that, we bring shame to the name of Christ. God Himself is true and good and loving.
Thankfully, He is also merciful. He shows compassion on those of us who do not deserve it, and forgives when we have note earned the right to be forgiven.
I can't convince you that God is real. But I can tell you what He has done in my life, and pray that He Himself will just wrap His arms around you and show you His incredible love.

I somehow just noticed your reply to me from several months ago. Sheesh. Do you know what an ad hominem attack is? Please look it up; in fact, just click here. When Christians come here to proselytize, they nearly always do so in an angry, condescending, or purely selfish manner, and it gets extremely annoying. They (and you) completely ignore the purpose of the site and the wishes of the initial poster. Moreover, they frequently have nothing of substance to offer; this thread is a case in point (including your post). In my posts above, I pointed out that Christianity is one religion among thousands, each claiming fundamentally different doctrines, and each claiming to be a window into some alternate reality. If you come here wishing for others to peer through your particular (imaginary) window, then please be prepared to offer something in support of your beliefs. If not then please go away and save us all a little time and aggravation. It's funny that you see my request as mean-spirited and threatening, and that you respond with flames instead of facts or reason. To me that speaks volumes.

Anybody can believe anything they wish, and for whatever reason they wish. I've said that dozens of times on this site. But I draw the line when people come here thinking they are on a mission from god to force their views on others, and for no discernable reason other than the fact that it is their belief and we had therefore better believe it too.

I admit that I'm still a little unclear as to who you are addressing, and what you are trying to say. However, I'll try to respond briefly anyway.
You frequently use the word "truth," speaking of those who seek it and wish to share it. That word always gives me pause, and I use it very sparingly myself, for as far as I can see, anyone who claims to possess the "truth" surely does not. In my opinion, the loftiest ideal we can strive for is warranted belief, by which I mean beliefs that can be rationally defended, yet remain open to critical analysis and doubt. The latter attributes are essential, for without them beliefs become dogmas. In a battle of dogmas there can be no winner and therefore, in my opinion, precious little to gain.
I won't attempt to respond to specific statements in the capitalized portion of your post, because they seem to be aphorisms, and I'm not sure how literally you intended them.
I am a minister a young minister an i can also see that from an early age you have been exposed to many spiritual chanels and outlets cause you to be confused and in search of some fulfilment. But u was on the right track until you got baptised and 4 got to be saved. Jesus is speaking to you today. The so-called "Church" has been twisted up so badly, that many turn away from it. I dont blame them. When they pronounce that, "If you don't belive in Jesus CHRIST, then you will go to hell/ can't make it in to Heaven", they are missing Understanding and so spread that MisUnderstanding which brings doubt and irritation to others and The ALMIGHTY ONE FATHER is not about that at all. Knowing that CHRIST is LOVE and replacing that into the same statement changes everything, "IF U DO NOT BELIVE IN LOVE THAN U CAN NOT MAKE IT IN TO HEAVEN". See, begin to awaken...
If U first seperate Jesus the Man and CHRIST and Understand that Jesus had to Train and Learn how remove the Uncleanlyness from Himself in order to recieve CHRIST (SPIRT), thats why He recieved the Holy Spirit when He was 30, then U will see that the CHRISTHOOD is something U work towards and can obtain. Jesus said that, ..."those who follow My teachings will do the deeds I have done AND EVEN GREATER", imagine that! Even greater!!
The Whole Reason WHY Jesus came was to experience Life as a Man, but the "Church" turns Him into a deity, something unreachable, but that is not True at all. Jesus came to announce that "Just as I have done, so can U do", He came to let Us know it is possible. Jesus was a GOD-Man; a Master Soul and yes, there have been others, just as there are others today.
I will leave this mention-ing cuz We can go on for a time, Religion it self come from a latin-word regilous(mght b misspelld) which means I M P R I S O N M E N T/ C A P T I V I T Y ... BE FREE, BE HOPE, BE FAITH... BE LOVE.

All will not be saved Out of large amount of clay the gold is litte ! Why do you want to put youreself into the clay ? Word of God says God's sheep listens to his voice and walks and dosn't listen to anyones voice ! God Loves You and want's you to be saved. that's why he sent his son so that all may be saved BUT ONLY IF YOU BELIVE IN HIM! Life and Death is at your disposal CHOOSE!!!
